Physical Activity

According to the Fall 2000 report to the President of the United States from the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of Education, “Physical inactivity has contributed to an unprece-dented epidemic of childhood obesity that is currently plaguing the US”. With physical education programs being cut year after year, kids are not getting their daily requirements of exercise. In fact, 75% of today’s youth do not even exercise 20 minutes a day!

Studies conducted at both San Diego State University and UCSD School of Medicine found that a lack of physical activity is the most

significant risk factor contributing to obesity in elementary and middle school aged children.

Studies of young people have found that watching too much television is directly related to being overweight. 33% of US children are watching more than 3 hours of TV a day. 17% are watching more than 5 hours a day. Such a sedentary life-style is potentially lethal.

KidTribe takes kids away from their PlayStations and gets them actually playing! The goal is for children to obtain and maintain high levels of fitness so that they can carry out daily tasks without undue fatigue, respond to emergency situations, and possess sufficient energy to enjoy active and productive lifestyles.
